Welcome to The Incarnate Process episode 22 – Kynazarr Color 1

Project: Ascended Kings

More amazing progress by Dylan Pierpont!

Dlone Kynazarr is attuned to the focus of Pyre, one of the four foci of Ylem. This is why his eyes are red, as are all the eyes of Kynazari people. The eye color of the people of Empyrnea always take on the hue of the focus to which they are attuned.

The Golden Rose is symbolic of his role to the Metaphor that is the Ascended Kings lore.

Hey team!

So here’s the color update for today. I started getting a little carried away with finding the right balance of red and gold on the upper body section. But I think we have a solid harmony at this point that I can carry through the rest of the design. I know you had some pretty specific reds in mind going into this one so if anything isn’t working for you just say the word. The color glazing is pretty quick to adjust at this stage. That’ll be a bit more difficult to do as we close in on the final painting.

Also, I threw in a photo for the background and gave it a heavy blur just so he felt like we was part of a scene rather than on a flat gray wall. This should also give you an idea of what we might expect when we do finally tackle the background environments.

I’ll be sure to post WIP’s throughout the week leading up to the final image on the 14th 🙂 As always, let me know what you think!

This is phenomenal. I am so pleased with the color choice and the new details. Its so awesome to see him with red eyes! I’m getting really pumped up for the final image! This is going to to look so bad ass on the Player Mat! MORE EXCLAMATIONS!

Ha ha! Jeez dude, yeah this is really good. I see what your doing with the gauntlet ring locking device, That gap there is genius. Even if people don’t know about that right away it still by itself looks like a very effective design for combat. I mean, he wouldn’t ever need to punch a guy when he could just smash their face in with his forearm!

The thorns are looking great and really express the idea of the rose thorns.

I’m glad you incorporated that glove design too! Many good!

I love the colors man, you can just carry everything through this way like you said. The play of light in the reflections are really nice. Fantastic crown. The rose design is really cool. I love all of it. Awesome work.

Awesome! Thanks for all the praise. I’m having a lot of fun with this one so I’m really glad it’s coming through in the design work.

I think I’ll reinforce the locking mechanism on the forearm by adding some hard gold elements. That way it feels more like a sturdy slot instead of loose leather.

Thanks again Jason! Pretty excited to see how he turns out! Especially with him on the playermat.

Quick question: would you be interested in letting me tease detail shots of this image on instagram, facebook, and deviantart as we work through the final piece? I’d be sure to leave Kynazarr’s face out of the images, but I’m curious what my audience will think of the project. I have more than a few friends that play tabletop games who would be stoked to see something like this coming to life. If not, I completely understand. Just thought i’d ask.

Cheers!

I was looking at the gauntlet mechanism like it was iron but I can see now how that color is leather. Yeah man make the bulk part of it out of the same chrome color metal as the strips there on the hand, and then band around it at the beveled rim with gold, maybe even use the same rivet idea that’s on the hand. It doesn’t have to be leather; make it solid metal, heck yeah, that piece is mean. We don’t have to worry about the weight of it or anything this guy could lift a truck.

As far as posting to social media I am cool with that idea. I just request that you post the images and any dialog you will associate with it either on here or in an email to me first before you post it to the public. I think a little bit of exposure wont harm anything so long as we are doing it in a way that will both wet peoples appetite while still maintaining control over the assets before we officially release any promotional materials. So yeah, just share with me whatever you are planning to display on your portals first as we go along; that way we can avoid any surprises.

Sounds good! I’m getting all the main patterns between red, gold and silver designed before I do a big filigree/detail pass to add all the thorny trim and stuff. Rivets could work on the gautlit. I’ll give it a shot!

Just posting a WIP so you can see how the face has turned out. I might do some subtle color shifting before I call it done, but all the facial features are in place at this point. Time to focus on armor from here on out!

If/when I find a crop or two that I think could really work I’ll be sure sure to shoot them your way along with a description for approval. Which reminds me, do you have a large scale version of your Incarnate Games logo and/or the final Ascended Kings logo that Tony created. It would be killer to have one or both of those stamp in the corners so people know what it’s for. Unless you’d rather keep those out until the final reveal to build mystique.

Also, don’t worry. I’m dropping the top of his skull. Just now noticed he pretty much has a five or six-head, haha.

Yeah man I have the .ai files for both my company logotype and logo and the .ai for the Ascended Kings logotype and logo. I can share those with you in the Google Drive. I have a meeting tomorrow where I’ll be getting some final business related things done; one of which is submitting trademarks to the Patent and Trademark Office. Once that is done I will shoot these files to you no later than Wednesday. Once I have that peace of mind I have no problem displaying the title content.

Dude, your work is starting to freak me out. Like, you posted this SECOND what you call “work in progress” in the same day and its scaring me cause it keeps getting better! At this rate I feel that in the final version Kynazarr might literally jump out of my screen and kick my ass. This dude is freaking intense!

The new gauntlet mechanism is looking really good. It looks like this design probably wouldn’t need rivets because its a thick solid ring of gold and not a strip of gold wrapped over the edge of the pipe. Keep it like you have it, it looks more war forged this way and stands out, I like it.

I absolutely love the scratches in the armor! I’d like to see one or two really deep cuts or chipped areas as well. I know you probably wouldn’t want to deface any of the roses so you can utilize your artistic licence of course. When people look at this image I want them to know this guy has been through some serious s#*t and he isn’t f––king around.

Also, I agree that dropping his skull would make it look better. I wasn’t that worried about it, I knew you were focused on specific design elements. I was pretty sure that would be one of the things that you would resolve as the final version got closer. I will admit though, if you hadn’t brought it up in the next couple days I was gonna say something like “Hey, if you were to take his crown off, would his head still be that big?”

One quick thing I will mention though is on the collar piece. Are you going to mirror that flourish design across to his right side (our left) as well?

Cool. No worries. Take your time with the logos. No rush.

Haha. Thanks! That was the goal from the get-go was to push the realism side of these characters. So that’s been the aim from start to finish. Should be pretty fun to see the full figure when it’s all said and done.

Yep. We can ding up the armor a bit more and show some heavy wear. I’m not opposed to cutting into the roses either. Just have to do it in a way that doesn’t feel too obtrusive and distracting. And the collar with get the flipped design on the left side, yes. I haven’t done that yet because i think I’m going to change the lines a bit to tie back into the “thorn” motif. Right now it they’re just some placeholder, rudimentary scribbles that don’t really have any meaning. So I’ll design those a bit more and echo the look throughout the armor.

I’ll probably shoot for Thursday on the next update (the 11th). Would like to have the entire top half of him completed by then so I can work on the lower half through to Sunday’s deadline.

Let me know if you have any other questions comments or concerns!

Cheers!
